Communicate Fire Knowledge
FIREPRO Institute Ltd. was founded in 1986 by Rexford Wilson, who currently
serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Wilson holds a degree in
Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts. He served on the
fire department in Amherst, Massachusetts.
He has held positions such
as: NFPA Fire Record Editor; Executive Secretary, Fire Marshals Association of
North America; Director, Fire Service Extension, College of Engineering,
University of Maryland; Manager, Fire Product Development, Fenwal, Inc.; and
President, FIREPRO Incorporated, the technical consulting center for fire
engineering and physical asset defense, a corporation he founded.
In 1992
he repositioned FIREPRO Institute Ltd. as a worldwide educational organization
devoted to improving the delivery of building firesafety knowledge among
practitioners.
Author of numerous articles on fire and fire protection,
he originated the NFPA's Multiple Death Study, and the NFPA Report on
International Fire Data.
He has been a frequent contributor to the NFPA
Handbook of Fire Protection, a member of several government commissions, and has
patented a portable automatic fire extinguishing system used in large aircraft
manufacture and nuclear facilities.
He has performed detailed fire
analysis of many major fatal fires, including those at the Dupont Plaza Hotel,
the MGM Grand Hotel, the Hartford Hospital, the Museum of Modern Art and the
Chicago School. As a student of conflagrations, Mr. Wilson predicted and later
reported on the massive fire in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles. He has
served as an "expert witness" in court.
Mr. Wilson's lecture, teaching
and consulting assignments have covered the U.S., Canada, Europe and the Near
and Far East. He is a fellow of the SFPE, and has been awarded many prizes,
including being the second recipient of the prestigious NFPA Standards Medal.
He is founder of the NFPA Committee on Fire Reporting, founder of the
SFPE Committee on Measurement of Fire Phenomena, coined the "drop-roll" part of
the phrase that became "Stop, Drop and Roll," founder of the LimitFireTM Method used in the Measurement of Building Firesafety,
and co-founder of the L-Curve Method of evaluating the Fire Risk in a building.
Rexford Wilson is a registered Professional Engineer; former
Secretary-Treasurer of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE); and life
member of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). He has been listed in
several volumes of Who's Who.
