A Global Endeavor to Communicate Fire Knowledge

Fire Protection Engineers

Those who design, fit, fix and test devices to detect or limit fire.

These individuals work with the Codes and Standards as they relate to fire equipment. The five businesses around the fire community are: the portable extinguisher business, the fire detection and alarm business, the special hazard system business, the automatic sprinkler business and the fire equipment business.

Some Fire Protection Engineers have deep experience in one field (such as a sprinkler system design), while others have experience in many disciplines (such as multi-disciplined FPE working in an insurance company).

The Fire Protection Engineer generally is a Professional Engineer. He often is the system designer and stamps plans of his design. He generally works when others--the building owner, the fire engineer, the code authority--have made a decision as to what's needed where.

Several persons in this part of the Fire Community have offered to assist those with questions, or those who are exploring our professions to see if a career is this area might be appealing. The people available can be found on the Advisors page.
